Two. Puppy Snuggles – My sweet puppy Watson has been extra cuddly lately and I absolutely love it. Watson has always been very independent and isn’t very cuddly, preferring some pets and then being allowed to go on his way to stretch out in the sunshine and do his own thing.

I do think that his recent desire for cuddles has something to do with his getting older. He’ll be eleven next Spring and while most of the time he doesn’t seem to be slowing down, he has gotten much more snuggly in the past few months. I hate to think about him getting older, but I suppose if he must age – at least he feels more like being loved on!

Three. Hash Brown Chicken Casserole – Another Pinterest recipe that was not a fail! I’ve been looking for a good chicken style casserole and this one turns out to be chicken pot pie style – with delicious corn and carrots, white meat chicken and a flavorful sauce! So yummy and easy to put together!

What You Need

  • 2 Lbs. Frozen Hash Brown Potatoes (Diced)
  • 2 Cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1/2 tsp. salt & pepper
  • 1 Cup Frozen Peas & Carrots
  • 1 Can Sweet Summer Corn; drained
  • 2 Cups Sour Cream or Plain Yogurt
  • 1 Can Cream of Chicken Soup
  • 1/3 Cup Milk
  • 3 Cups of Chicken (I used 3 cans of chicken; drained)
  • Bread Crumbs

Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Place the frozen potatoes in the bottom of a lightly greased 9×13 pan. In a large bowl, mix well all the remaining ingredients (except bread crumbs). Pour over the potatoes and spread evenly. Sprinkle with bread crumbs to your liking and cook for 1 hour or until top is golden brown. Enjoy!

Four. Weekend Plans – Well, for this weekend there really isn’t too much on the agenda! My sweet pup has a date with the vet on Saturday morning and some family friends are coming for dinner on Saturday night (I’ve been tasked with dessert) but otherwise, not too much on the calendar! The weather is supposed to be gorgeous and a bit cooler (in the 70’s) and so perhaps I’ll spend some time outdoors with Watson. Who knows? What I do know is that Autumn is right around the corner and my calendar is already filling up with wonderful things to do – I can’t wait!

I did introduce my Mom to Outlander…essentially a week ago, and she’s already blazed through season one, so something tells me there might be a little bit of Outlander watching this weekend. We shall see…we shall see. 😉

Five. Farewell to Murphy – What a week it has been where my beloved Nationals are concerned. Tuesday afternoon I sat at my desk and was utterly stunned to see that six of our players had been put on waivers and both Matt Adams and Daniel Murphy had been claimed by other teams. This announcement was followed up with a press conference where it was confirmed that Daniel Murphy had been traded to the Chicago Cubs for a minor league player and cash considerations!

Not only was he traded away, but it seems like he was traded away for peanuts – blegh. I’m just glad that I got to see Daniel play on Saturday night! My heart still hurts a little bit thinking about Murphy playing for another team…and it really hurt to see his name on the Cubs line-up last night. You know what will really sting? When the Cubs come to DC the first week of September and have OUR player! *sigh* All this to say – you will be sorely missed Murph!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and enjoys the final weekends of summer!

Watson Wednesday

I decided to do a little “way back Wednesday” for Watson today. My Time Hop continues to pop up some really great pictures of Watson and so I couldn’t resist sharing just a couple.
The little guy has always loved being able to stretch out comfortably – whether it be in the sunshine, sprawled across the grass…or on the comforts of the couch, like the little human he thinks he is, ha-ha!
He takes that sprawling and relaxation a bit further when he settles in to watch a movie, making sure his pillow is expertly arranged and he has optimal viewing.
Such a funny little guy – loving his creature comforts, no matter the time.

Ciao Bella

November… a time of year when people feast on turkey, dressing and pumpkin pie. Although this year, we’ve decided that for our Thanksgiving feast we are going to do things a little differently. This year we’ll be dining on pasta, pizza and gelato – all things Italian – because my family and I will be Italy bound the week of Thanksgiving!

 Image result for Rome
The plan right now is to see Rome, Pompeii, Naples and Sicily and I am absolutely so excited! It’s long been a dream to see the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the city of Pompeii – I’m sure seeing all these places “for real” will illicit some emotions from me. Just thinking about it makes me feel a little emotional – but all in a good way!

Now – here are my questions to you. Have you been to Italy? Have you been to Rome, Pompeii or Sicily? And if you have, what do you think is a must see in the area? We are planning to see all the “big” items in Rome: the Colosseum, the Forum, the Pantheon, Vatican City, the Spanish Steps…just to name a few…and I’ll definitely be throwing a coin in the Trevi Fountain, something tells me that I’ll want to return to the Eternal City one day!

Is there one tour in Pompeii that is better than the other tours? Do you know of the perfect place to get pizza in Sicily? Let me know!

I honestly can’t believe that in just a few months, I’ll be wandering the streets of Italy! I feel quite certain that once I return from Italy, the food at Olive Garden just won’t have the same zest – what do you think?

Weekend Vibes

I am convinced that the weekends pass much too quickly – I swear it was just yesterday that I was typing away excitedly about the weekend being on the verge of beginning and here we are – on Monday once again. I am all too aware that a three day weekend is coming up soon and I could not be more excited about it.

Friday after work we had dinner at Olive Garden and I was introduce to their delicious Green Apple Sangria! It is light, fruity and absolutely delicious…and I was blown away when my Mom ordered a glass of the Peach Sangria for herself, because she does not drink – ever. We have tried (in vain) to find a rose or white wine that she likes but we’ve yet to succeed…so I was stunned that she ordered something made with white wine. Well, she ended up sipping two small sips and deciding that the Peach tasted more “alcohol-y” than the Green Apple that we’d sampled – and that’s how I ended up with two glasses of Sangria to go with my dinner, ha-ha!

I had the delicious but entirely too filling Cheese Filled Gnocchi with Alfredo Sauce and Chicken – so yummy. *drool* We perused Hobby Lobby just a bit and then headed home, where I sat outside with my pup in the post storm breezes for just a bit. I’ve introduced my Mom to Outlander and so we passed the rest of the evening with a couple of the episodes from the first season and then I finished China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan.
Try as I might – I couldn’t sleep past about 7:30 on Saturday morning, so I rather reluctantly made my way out of the bed and to the coffee pot for sustenance. I did a whole lot of nothing throughout Saturday morning… had some coffee and made sure to have it in my Game of Thrones mug (you’ll see…), had some breakfast, poked around the house and did some things here and there, until my friend Danielle arrived at 2:00 and we made our way to DC for the Nationals game.
Saturday evening was Game of Thrones night at Nationals Park and so Danielle and I made our way into the city and our first stop before the Park was Ice Cream Jubilee to introduce Danielle to the delicious goodness of the ice cream there. I had two scoops – Cookies & Cookie Dough and Fresh Minty Chip – both delicious! And then we walked along the river walk to Nationals Park and joined the line of people waiting to go in and grab their figurines and sit on the Iron Throne…

Once we made our way into Nationals Park, we had to search for the Iron Throne – I’m not sure why in the world the people that actually worked at Nationals Park didn’t actually know (we had to ask two different people) but we were finally directed to the Kennedy Ballroom and some absolutely amazing air conditioning…and of course, the Iron Throne!
After taking our pictures on the Iron Throne – a fast and furious activity to be sure, we made our way out and around the park…perusing the Team Store and sadly finding that there wasn’t a single Game of Thrones item to be purchased, we made our way to our seats and got Dothraki Dogs (all the food was renamed along Game of Thrones lines) and readied ourselves for the game. Of course, much like last year – all the player’s pictures were styled along the lines of Thrones characters…

Unfortunately the game itself wasn’t much to talk about… *sigh*. Trea Turner did hit a two run home run in the second or third inning and that was fun to see, but the game sort of stalled out after that… not much in the way of good pitching from the Nationals nor good hitting for that matter. We decided to head back toward the Metro after the 6th inning and while the game tied up at 5-5 in the 9th, the Marlins won in the 10th inning and so it certainly wasn’t the win I was hoping for. The highlight of the game was definitely getting to see the new bullpen cart in action – it was positively amusing.
I woke up on Sunday morning with a headache and began trying everything I could think of to get rid of the headache – because we had post church tickets to see Crazy Rich Asians and I have been looking forward to seeing it so much! Church was great and afterward, we headed to The Alamo for our showing of Crazy Rich Asians – we went all in and got food and drink inspired by the movie: The Orchard Road to drink, Chicken Satay to eat and Mahjong Cookies for dessert – yummy!
img_6322

The movie was so good: funny, sweet, romantic, heart-warming…just everything I wanted it to be and more. It does have some differences from the book, but not in a way that makes it less – just different. If you are thinking about going to see Crazy Rich Asians, I would so highly recommend it – it’s excellent! And if you are seeing it at an Alamo Drafthouse, I’d also recommend getting the Chicken Satay – it’s super yummy!

Unfortunately the last thirty minutes or so of the movie was a bit of a struggle for me; not because the movie wasn’t good (it’s excellent), but because my headache was really flaring up and starting to make me feel a little sick to my stomach as well. Once we got home, I had to take a minute (an hour) to lie down in the dim light of my living room and let the headache back off. Blegh.

img_6327

We did a bit of grocery shopping and I snapped the above photo of a deer grazing alongside the road as you enter our community – so sweet. We had our traditional Sunday evening meal of Papa John’s thin crust pizza and I took my usual bubble bath. My Mom and I watched two more episodes of Outlander and that was the weekend – done!

Now – how many more days until the next weekend starts? I could use another weekend like…right now!

Five on Friday

It’s one of the best days of the week – it’s Friday once again! This week has felt so very long y’all… Having said that, onward to this week’s Five on Friday!

Flora Boom
One. Monday Malaise – I had rather grand plans to start doing my work out(s) at 6:00 in the morning on the weekdays this week…and Monday I dove into that with gusto. Monday afternoon at work I started to absolutely drag and while coffee helped, it only lasted about thirty minutes before things went progressively downhill. I ended up leaving work at 4:00 (picked up by my Momma) and when I left I couldn’t get my arms and legs to work, I felt like I was going to pass out…it was not a good feeling.

I have absolutely no clue what the deal was but I was left with no energy for the next 24 hours and just felt positively wretched. I should mention that I’ve dealt with migraines before and I had an insane headache all day Monday as well – so maybe that was the culprit? I don’t know – but I know Monday was rough and made the day…and the week as well…seem insanely long.

Two. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society – If you have not heard about this movie, based on the best selling book from 2008…I am here to make it known to you! Look past the interesting title and watch this movie! I cannot tell you enough how absolutely wonderful this movie was – it is just perfection!

This movie is on Netflix and clocks in at about two hours but you will not realize that two hours have passed because the story is compelling, the casting is sublime and the whole thing is just beyond enjoyable. Go watch it!

Three. Crazy Rich Asians – I have so been looking forward to seeing this movie and I am going this weekend! So excited! I read the book a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it…when I found it was becoming a movie, I was immediately on board and it finally came out on Wednesday!

I’ll be watching the movie at our local Alamo Drafthouse and they have a special menu just for Crazy Rich Asians – and I plan to take advantage of it! I can’t decide whether I’ll be sampling The Orchard Road or The Wet Market…but I will definitely be getting Mahjohg Cookies!
Four. Outlander Season Four – Finally…at last, at long last…yesterday Outlander announced that the fourth season will premiere on November 4th! When the fourth season premieres it will have been almost a full year – what is with all the shows I love having such long breaks between seasons? (I’m looking at you Game of Thrones)…

That means there are 79 days until Jamie, Claire and the rest of the cast are gracing our television sets once more. The Droughtlander will be over in (barely) less than 80 days – and if that’s not reason enough to rejoice, I don’t know what is.

Five. Weekend Plans – I’ve already mentioned one portion of my weekend, but I’ll elaborate a bit further, how does that sound? I’m not entirely sure what my Friday evening holds but I know there will be dinner out somewhere… that’s almost always a guarantee of any Friday evening at this season of my life. There may be some watching of Outlander, since I’ve introduced my Mom to the show… who knows? I plan to just relax!

I’ll be sleeping in on Saturday and then in the afternoon, my friend Danielle and I are making our way to DC to get some refreshment at Ice Cream Jubilee and then onward to Nationals Park for Game of Thrones Night – where we’ll hopefully snag one of those little figurines and maybe (fingers crossed) the Nationals will win the game? Then it’s church and the movies on Sunday and probably a little more relaxing… I think the weekends are just never quite long enough. *sigh*
